Edit: We have now found a buyer! Sorry if this is disappointing news for anyone, however we do have some exciting news about one of our existing parallel hybrids coming up for sale soon – so watch this space!
Do you want a brand new electric Ortomarine narrowboat, but don’t want to wait 3 years until you can start enjoying the benefits of cruising the beautiful English canals silently?
We have a boat in our workshop which will be finished in April this year which is available for sale. It is the result of one of our customers unfortunately not being in a position to be able to go ahead with the purchase due mainly to the financial markets crash last year.
We offered the build slot to future customers who have build slots reserved, but the timings were just not quite right for any of them. We are often asked if we have any boats available from stock, so we took the opportunity to build one!
In a nutshell, it is a 58 foot (go anywhere), semi-cruiser stern, reverse layout, serial electric hybrid narrowboat with bow thruster. The electric motor is rated at 20kW continuous, and the generator is a Fischer Panda 8000x PVMV-N. The battery bank currently specified is comprised of 16 x 224Ahr C&D Nano-Carbon™ AES 12-2870F batteries, wired in series/parallel to give an overall capacity of 896Ahr @ 48VDC. However, if any potential customer would prefer to go down the LiFePO4 this is still possible at this stage – budget permitting! The finished boat is likely to cost in the region of £200K including VAT – the cost is dependent upon final choices, eg battery type.
Most of the internal materials and fittings have already been sourced, but any potential owner could still have input in terms of paint colours, galley appliances, dinette style (if any) and soft furnishings. Externally, we have not completely committed to the paint scheme yet, we are about to start undercoating the exterior so time is limited before final colour decisions are needed!
The current planned layout looks as follows, but we are still able to change a few things – talk to us!
