Now in our 70’s and having sold our smallholding we decided to go with Freddy’s long wish to own a narrow boat. We travelled the Midlands looking at second hand boats and marinas, but nothing seemed quite right. However, when we looked at boats in Droitwich we by chance saw a new boat that had been built by Ortomarine as their show boat. We contacted the company and quickly arranged to meet Caroline Badger for a boat viewing. We were welcomed aboard with a cup of tea and biscuits and so began what has become a thoroughly enjoyable working friendship. Within hours we agreed that the boat was just what we needed, particularly liking the space and light created by the contemporary but comfortable internal design.
Only a few weeks later we took possession of our boat – calling her HereWeGoAgain after a made up song we used to sing with our children each time we set off in our camper van.
Over the following few months Ortomarine made modifications as we required including building a double dinette. Following Caroline’s advice we had already changed the fridge for one with a larger freezer compartment, and also a small washing machine.
The innovative monitoring system has proved to be very useful, particularly being able to control the heating remotely via ipad or phone. Rob’s patience with us in getting to grips with this has been extraordinarily patient and kind!
We’ve also decided to have a wood burner fitted. This is being constructed at the company’s unit to avoid too much dust on the boat, and will be installed very soon – snow and weather permitting.
So, over the last 10 months . Caroline, Rob, Dave, and the team are always interested and welcoming, and have solved any queries or problems extremely quickly. It has been so reassuring for us two elderly beginners to have such a competent, professional team available for help and advice whenever we need it.
