‘Pendley’ is our 17th series hybrid narrowboat, built on a 61ft long Tim Tyler shell with a semi-cruiser style stern.
The all-electric propulsion is provided by a powerful Engiro brushless motor (with 24kW peak) and there is a Fischer Panda 12000 AGT 48V DC generator (keel cooled) to charge the 1000Ahr LiFePO4 Victron NG battery bank when the solar is not generating sufficient power. There are also 12 x 200W semi flexible solar panels which provide a 2.4kW solar array to help keep the batteries topped up while cruising or moored.
With two canine companions joining the owners onboard, it was important to the owners that the dogs were considered throughout the build. On the stern deck, guard rails and dog doors were fitted to keep the dogs safely enclosed while cruising, whilst an outside tap was fitted in a stern locker to ensure that no muddy paws made it back inside!
As you enter the boat from the stern, you come straight into the utility area, which includes a standard size washing machine along with plenty of storage space.
A stable door provides access through to the galley, allowing the utility space to be opened to the rest of the boat or kept closed on colder days. While cruising, this gives the dogs a comfortable, warm, dry area to relax while remaining part of the action, even when the weather isn’t particularly pleasant outside. It also means the rest of the boat can stay cosy without losing heat. There is no gas or diesel fired central heating aboard, the heating is all-electric, via energy efficient Herschel Infra-Red panels. The utility area is heated via a wall mounted IR panel, which will dry wet dogs in no time!
The U-shaped galley features a durable 30mm quartz worktop (Howdens Miami Vena) with generous preparation space including a breakfast bar, creating a practical and sociable space for both cooking and entertaining.
The tower unit houses a Miele pull-out drawer fridge, with a Neff integrated compact oven/microwave above, plus a useful storage cupboard over. Other AC appliances include a two-zone induction hob and under-counter integrated freezer. There is a useful 1.5 bowl ceramic sink with a 3-way mixer/filter tap, providing drinking water from the Water Freedom “Pure” system fitted under the sink. Storage is maximised throughout, with a combination of cupboards, tin cupboards, drawers and plinth drawers providing ample space for cookware, provisions and everyday essentials.
The main living area includes a bespoke oak media unit housing a 27” smart TV, which the owners can enjoy from their Sofabed Barn Canterbury 3 seat sofa. The media unit also houses the main filtration equipment for the Water Freedom water purification system, this provides an integrated solution for onboard water production and reduces reliance on waterside filling points.
Heating in the galley, saloon, bedroom & bathroom is supplied in the form of Herschel infra-red ceiling-mounted panel heaters, these inobtrusive and eco-friendly heaters provide a lovely heat, akin to being bathed in sunshine. The bathroom also has two 400W thermostatic radiators to assist in drying towels.
In the bathroom there is a large rectangular shower with ‘White Terrazzo’ shower panels, a corner vanity unit (Bowland blue) and a Compoost Deluxe separating toilet.
The owner’s bedroom has been designed as a multifunctional space, providing flexibility between daytime living and overnight accommodation. During the day, the single berths convert into comfortable sofas, creating an open seating and socialising area while maintaining clear access to the bow.
For overnight use, the individual berths extend to form more comfortable sleeping areas. Storage is incorporated throughout the space, with two full-height wardrobes, two end-of-bed storage units and additional storage beneath the beds.
As with all of our new boats, the fuel tank was filled with HVO at launch, which contributes to our boats starting out as environmentally friendly as possible.
